Stuck in Tanzania Tanzania! One of the most beautiful countries in East Africa is home to more then 100 different ethnic groups as well as some of the largest wildlife herds on the continent. Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak on the African continent is one of the continent 's most magnificent sights. I am thinking to climb it. Why not since I am planning to climb Everest in 2010. Where you can see all Africa from the top. Hahaha! Serengeti, the world famous wildlife park. Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain. Stately giraffes, indolent lions, stealthy cheetah. Perhaps in the words of Alan Moorehead - 'Anyone who can go to the Serengeti, and does not, is mad.' But I am in the Southwestern part of Tanzania. I have entered Tanzania from Malawi. It is still wild in southwest part of Tanzania. There is only 100 kilometer of paved road in this part of the country. After Tunduma there is only a dirt road until Kigoma. I am not going to Dodoma or Dar Es Salam. Even Dodoma is a capital of Tanzania but everything is happening in Dar Es Salam. All diplomatic missions are in Dar Es Salam. I am heading to Burundi. I do not have a visa for Burundi. If I go to Dar Es Salam and then return back toward Burundi it will take me around two months. I heard that there is Burundi consulate in Kigoma. I am just heading there believing what people have told me. If I don't get to enter Burundi I will miss Rwanda and Uganda also. From Tunduma to Namanyare it took me three days. From there to Mpanda there is Katavi national park. It is not safe to ride bike inside the park . People said there are lions. One of the police told me it is better to catch a ride. If you ride bicycle inside the park maybe lions are hiding in bush in the day time but not tse tse. Tse tse flies are more dangerous than lions. Tse Tse flies are a little bit bigger then house flies. Lions will not attack people without any reason, but Tse tse flies will bite any time without any reason. The Tse Tse fly bite makes you sleepy. If you sleep in the middle of the jungle then you will sleep forever. Wow! It is better to get ride then ride my bike. I don't want to sleep forever in this African jungle.
I got a ride to Mpanda. It was all dirt road. There were lots potholes in the road. When the jeep slowed down for the holes there were lots of Tse Tse flies swarming in the jeep's windows. From Mpanda to Kigoma it is almost 400 kilometers. It is rainy season here and almost everyday it rains here. Sometimes ten times a day. It is impossible to ride bike in this time from Mpanda to Kigoma. Even there are no vehicles driving this route at this time. Then how to reach there? There is only one option, the train. I am in middle of Mpanda. If there is no rain it is a dusty town. If it's raining it's muddy. Sometimes I am thinking I chose the wrong route and I am stuck in a remote town. I am angry with myself. Why did I choose this route? " There is a train to Kigoma . "But it only comes next week. If it comes." somebody told me.
